Justice for Dieneba Traore

State v. Traore Dieneba Sekou

A Mother’s Advocacy Turned Criminal Case

On October 7, 2024, Dieneba Traore’s teenage son, Kahlil Wilson, was the victim of an armed robbery near a Safeway close to their home in Howard County, Maryland. The robbery was captured on video. There were identifiable suspects, social media accounts, and messages tied to the incident.

Concerned for her son’s safety, Ms. Traore immediately sent him to Texas to stay with family. She then pursued what she believed to be the appropriate legal channels. She contacted Howard County police, school administrators, and a parent connected to the suspects. She filed multiple reports and provided all available evidence, including video footage, social media information, and threatening communications.

Despite these efforts, she was advised that the suspects were minors and that consequences were unlikely. She retained a victims’ rights attorney to assist in advocating for her son.

Days later, in an unexpected development, Ms. Traore was charged in connection with an alleged shooting on October 12, 2024.

In court, the lead detective testified under oath that there is no evidence that Ms. Traore:

  • Shot anyone

  • Arranged for anyone to be shot

  • Planned a shooting

  • Requested that anyone be shot

Nonetheless, she faces serious criminal charges.

This case presents a troubling sequence of events: a documented armed robbery victimized her son; she pursued formal reporting channels; she sought legal counsel; and after signaling her intent to raise public awareness, she became the accused.

Our advocacy centers on transparency, due process, and accountability. We believe the public deserves clarity on why a mother who reported a violent crime and cooperated fully with authorities is now facing charges absent direct evidence of wrongdoing.

At its core, this case raises fundamental questions about retaliation, investigative integrity, and the rights of crime victims and their families.

We are calling for a fair and impartial review of the facts.
